Welcome to Willow School's EXCEL Program!District 153 offers a variety of opportunities for gifted and talented students. Formal identification for our gifted program does not occur until the end of 2nd grade. However, in grades K-2 at Willow School, enrichment activities are provided for qualifying students. Math acceleration is available for advanced students.
Critical thinking and problem solving are the core of all EXCEL Programs at Willow School. Qualifying students have opportunities for advanced learning experiences by working with the EXCEL resource teacher through extension of the regular curriculum. Program activities are designed to increase the depth of study through use of higher order thinking skills to challenge students.
Reading and math enrichment programs are available at the kindergarten through second grade levels for students that qualify through various screening procedures in the fall and late spring of each school year. An accelerated math program, Odyssey Math,is available for qualifying second grade students. All second grade classes meet with the EXCEL resource teacher through a program designed to provide critical thinking skills.
