Art
Welcome to Art at Willow School!Although Willow School is a primary building, the first and second grade students receive an hour of art instruction each week.
The art projects are devised to provide exposure to the elements of design: line, shape, color, value, texture, form, and space. The principles of design - repetition, balance, emphasis, contrast, and unity - are also incorporated into many of the art lessons. Along with the elements and principles, the children explore many of the works by the masters, helping them to gain an appreciation for all types of art. Another emphasis will be to discover how cultures from different parts of the world create art. Since the current direction in art education is to connect it to the regular classroom curriculum, many of the art projects are intended to enhance the core subjects. To further cultivate the students' appreciation for art, all first and second grade classes venture each spring on a field trip to the Art Institute of Chicago.
