Welcome to second grade at Willow School! I would love to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Amanda Townsend, and I will be your child’s teacher for this school year. I completed my master’s degree in elementary education in May of 2005 and I wrapped up a second master’s degree program in school administration in December 2010. This will be my seventh year of teaching here at Willow! That, along with the fact that I attended Willow when I was younger and I have lived in Homewood for most of my life, makes this school and this community truly feel like home for me, and I hope to pass that feeling along to my students.
Our classroom is all about making learning fun! We work hard, but we play hard as well...singing and dancing are always happening in room 49! This year, we have the pleasure of having Kim Genduso as an assistant. The extra teaching hands will help make this year fabulous!
Our well-rounded core curriculum consists of the Everyday Mathematics, Sitton Spelling, Making Meaning, Being a Writer, McGraw-Hill, and guided reading programs. We also learn science and social studies on an audited basis (not graded for report cards).
