Gifted/EnrichmentOverview of Excel ProgramThe EXCEL Program at Churchill School is a language arts-based pullout program. Students meet with Mrs. Christine Engels, the EXCEL Resource Teacher, for three additional hours of reading and language art enrichment weekly. A variety of teaching tools will be used: Smart Board interactive activities, library resources, Power Point, research using computers, Junior Great Books, Wordly Wise 3000 vocabulary program, and much more. Students are invited to participate in the EXCEL Program based on achievement test scores from NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) and the OLSAT (Otis-Lennon School Ability Index Test) in addition to parent and teacher surveys. EXCEL students are grouped together into clusters within each classroom. Teachers at Churchill School have been trained in gifted education, so many lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of the cluster group.
Other enrichment opportunities Churchill School offers are extra-curricular clubs, orchestra, choir, and the annual science fair.
