Transportation Information
Free bus transportation is provided to all students who live beyond 1½ miles from school and to students who would have to walk along or cross roads defined as presenting serious safety hazards. Additionally, bus service for students needing transportation between school and a day care provider is provided as long as that provider resides within the school district boundaries.
Families may be able to purchase bus transportation for students who do not qualify for free transportation. These requests will be considered based on need and the availability of seats. The current cost is $384 per student.
Bus stop locations are selected to serve the children from central locations near their homes. These locations are reviewed for safety reasons by the Homewood, Glenwood, and Hazel Crest police. Your child should ride the bus to and from the stop location closest to his/her home.
Parents should not request bus route changes or an additional bus stop to provide a convenience stop at their driveway.
Students are expected to ride the same morning and afternoon bus unless special arrangements have been made with the Business Office.
After enrollment of all children is completed, bus routes and stops may be changed.
Buses are provided for eligible kindergartners at their 1:30 p.m. dismissal time. During the first week of school, parent volunteers ride the kindergarten buses to assist these students.
Weather conditions affect bus schedules. Please do not call the school office if
the bus is late during bad weather.
Unsatisfactory operation of the bus by the driver should be reported immediately to the school principal or to Susan Barrows in the District Business Office at 922-2411. Without this information, the schools cannot correct the problem.
