7th Grade Springfield Trip Information

Dear Parents/Guardians of 7th grade students:

The 7th grade trip to Springfield is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Due to the cost of the trip, which is $91, we wanted to send information out early so that families can plan accordingly. Payment will be due mid March. The cost of the trip will include transportation to and from Springfield and all the stops in between (Lincoln’s home, old and new capitol, New Salem, memorials) as well as lunch and dinner. The students will be traveling by coach busses.

There are guidelines that the students must follow so that they can attend this trip. The guidelines are found on page 12 of the student agenda book.

As the date nears, we will send more information home with the students.

Asi Se Dice Student Works Plus CD

As a convenience, James Hart is offering students the opportunity of renting the Asi Se Dice Student Works Plus CD for the school year. The CD is an electronic version of the student textbook and workbook used in the 7th and 8th grade Spanish course at James Hart. The rental cost is $10.00. The rental is totally optional and is not required of any student enrolled in Spanish at James Hart.

THE GRADE BOOK COMPONENT TO THE PARENT PORTAL IS NOW OPEN

Access to the grade book will allow you to see assignment due dates and grades for all completed activities. In order to provide you accurate and timely information, all of the teachers will be updating their grade books by Thursday of every week. This means you will be able to get a complete look at your student’s academic progress on a weekly basis. Please remember to talk to your student if you are concerned or have questions about something you see in the grade book. Please call the teacher if you still have concerns after speaking with your student.

Please do not worry if you have not received your activation key. As soon as they are processed you will receive an email giving you the key. You may also contact the office if you need a parent portal enrollment form. Please call the office at 799-5544 if you have any questions or comments

James Hart IESA Involvement

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

I want to take a moment to remind you about an upcoming change to the athletic program at James Hart School. You may remember receiving a letter from me last summer describing our future involvement in the Illinois Elementary School Association. The letter stated that while we will continue to participate as part of the South Suburban Junior High School Association conference, our teams also will participate in state competitions organized by the Illinois Elementary School Association. The IESA conducts state competitions in a variety of sports and other activities. We competed in the Cross Country state meet in October and will compete in the Track state competition this May. As the earlier letter stated, we will be adding Basketball and Volleyball during the 2009-2010 school year. Please understand that the IESA has a very specific rule regarding student participation on more than one team. The rule states, “During the IESA season for a sport students shall not practice or participate in any non-school competition in the same sport either as an individual or a team member. Examples of non-school competition include the following: organized leagues, park and recreation leagues, club teams, and youth sport leagues.” We are aware that there are students that currently participate on teams outside of James Hart. Please understand that this will no longer be possible if the seasons occur at the same time. There may also be a slight change in the season length and time of year our seasons take place.

We understand that this may require students and families to make decisions about which team they will participate on in the coming years. While we are aware it may be difficult, we believe our involvement in IESA activities will provide new opportunities for all our students. We are sending this letter now to ensure that everyone is aware of the change and is able to prepare appropriately. We have mailed a copy of this letter with the season schedule for the 2009-2010 school year to every incoming 7th and 8th grade student to better help you make any decisions. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions regarding our involvement in the IESA.
