Early Childhood Education

Homewood School District 153 provides preschool screening for children who are at least three years of age, but who are not old enough to enter kindergarten. Screenings are held three times per year. The preschool screening assesses the following skill areas: speech and language, fine motor, gross motor, self-help, and cognition.

The district offers two distinct programs for preschool-aged children who meet certain eligibility requirements. The Early Childhood Program services students who have been identified as having special education needs, and the Pre-kindergarten Program is provided for students who have particular at-risk characteristics.
