About Us
Homewood School District 153 is located 25 miles south of Chicago, covering most of
Homewood and parts of Glenwood and Hazel Crest. It serves a richly diverse community of student learners in four schools.
Mention Homewood and most people will comment on its excellent public schools. In fact,
people are attracted to Homewood as a place to live and work because of the quality of its schools.
Homewood Schools have a long-standing tradition of academic excellence. Class sizes are small.
Parent volunteerism and community involvement is high. Solid curriculum and innovative programs are our hallmarks.
Technology is a regular part of student learning. And in an era when finances force too many school districts to
abandon art, music, theater, athletic events and even hot lunches, we are proud to offer a well-rounded and comprehensive
educational experience in Homewood.
Homewood Schools have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Students consistently
excel on standardized tests, surpassing state and national averages by wide margins. Proud as we are of the scores they
achieve, we are prouder still of the kind of community members they become. Our children are highly involved in extra
curricular activities and community service.
Small classes … child-centered programs … creative and approachable teachers who recognize
that children learn in many different ways … top notch support services … these are the things that make the
Homewood schools what they are: warm, friendly places that challenge all children to reach their potential.
